Javea's Parador

The Parador de Javea may not be the most beautiful building in the world but it has an exceptional situation right on the headland looking over the Arenal beach. The excellence of the location was also spotted by the Romans and the Pardor de Javea is built on ruins of the local commander's villa. There are Roman columns and remains at the bottom of the garden.

Built in the 60s it was recently renovated the 69 rooms are all air-conditioned. There is a fantastic parquet floored lounge that looks onto the beach, and the Bar opens onto the terrace which leads down to the ample lawns overlooking the sea, and also down to the decent sized outdoor pool.


Rates are about 140 euros per night for a twin room. The cuisine is regional and when I stayed there, not too inspiring, but it may have improved. Breakfast, as is so common in Spain, is exceptionally good.

Would I recommend it? Yes, I stayed there with my wife and in due course with our two sons till they were about 4 years old and we were always really well looked after, superb location, comfortable rooms, friendly staff. My advice - drop in to the bar for a drink one evening and check it out - you don't have to be a resident to drink there. And while you're there check out the Mystery Villa of Javea next door!
